Introduction

PORTH NANVEN

West Cornwall Workshop 24th-27th March 2019.

So here it is at last i have decided to finally fly solo and advertise
my very first Workshop in the place i know and love more than anywhere, my birth county of Cornwall

I'm really excited about this Workshop and i will leave no stone unturned to show you around this rugged yet beautiful peninsular.

The emphasis of the Workshop will be photographing the Porth Nanven area as there are numerous compositions

from large expanse Landscapes to more detailed rock formations which have the most amazing texture and colours.

We will also be visiting other nearby locations such as the following.

Cape Cornwall

Botallack (The Crowns Engine Houses)

Porth Ledden

Land's End

Porthcurno

Penberth Cove

I also have some other locations which maybe possible to visit depending on time constraints

My Workshops will be slow and methodical with most emphasis

on composition and visual awareness in particular.

I have not only aimed my Workshop on photographers interested in photographing in Square Format so

don't worry if you prefer photographing in a more conventional format such as 3x2.

However if you, like myself prefer photographing in Square Format i can assist you to achieve images that

you will be compositionally very pleased with.

I have found often rules such as the rule of thirds will not always work when photographing in a Square Format.

We will be staying in The Premier Inn at Hayle which is ideally situated

just off the main A30 and within 30 minutes of any of the locations that we will be visiting during the Workshop.

Fitness Level
The majority of locations are close to where i will be parking my car so there is no need to be walking any great distances.

However some of the locations may require walking up and down steep pathways and sometimes uneven ground.

I would suggest anyone with a reasonable fitness level will have no problems what so ever with the terrain.

The workshop will be run at a very slow pace and there will be little hurry

or need to rush around so there will be no pressure to "get a move on"

so anyone thinking that need not worry!

schedule
Sunday 24th March 2019  (Evening shoot)

Arrive at the Premier Inn at Hayle for approximately 3pm

This gives us enough time to meet and greet each other and for us all to check in.

If everyone is happy we should have enough time to go out for a sunset shoot at Godrevy Lighthouse which is only a few

miles away from our base in Hayle.

Afterwards we will then return back to base for a evening meal

(Please see the map and directions below)

(Full day)

Tuesday 26th March 2019         (Full Day)
            Wednesday 27th March 201      (Finish 4pm)

Due to various factors such as weather and tides i have not yet decided as to the order in which we will visit the

various locations i have named in the introduction.

Nearer the time of the workshop i will have a much better idea as to the order of which we will visit each location

once i know how the weather is going to work out.

I am putting most time and emphasis on both Porth Nanven and Botallack as i feel they have the best Landscape

to enable participants to benefit most from my workshop.

We will be up for a sunrise every morning providing the weather is not so bad that it's impossible to work in and we

will be out for the day apart from stopping for some refreshments in the morning/lunchtime.

We will always end the day with a sunset on location and will eat at resteraunts close-by

as to reduce the impact on our photography clashing with evening meal times.

Food and evening meals

I will mention more in correspondence before the workshop regarding food.

Please make me aware if you require any dietry needs in particular or if you have any food allergies

so i can find venues to eat at that will accommodate everyone's needs.

Gear and clothing requirements
Obviously you will need to bring your camera and lenses.

I would suggest a reasonably wide angle lens with a focal length anywhere between 10mm up to around 24mm will suitable

along with a longer local length lens in the region of 24-70mm.

This local length will cover most other situations that we will be photographing.

Walking boots or Wellington Boots, i would suggest Wellington Boots due to the likelihood of getting wet feet.

Waterproof clothing including jacket and trousers.

Your own tripod and mounting plate to attach your camera.

A cable release for your camera.
